“We do know that a diverse ecosystem supports a varied and beneficial microbial community living around and inside us.  We also know that exposure to green space, even within urban environments, increases our physical and mental well-being.”

Have you ever wondered why you feel healthier and happier when you stroll through the trees or frolic by the sea? Is it just that you’re spending time away from work, de-stressing and taking in the view? Or is there more to it?

For more than 20 years, scientists have been trying to determine the mechanisms by which exposure to biodiversity improves health. Japanese scientists pioneered the search when they travelled to the island of Yakushima, famous for its biodiversity.

  1. There is another new law on the books that Judge Grendell could use at any time to stop your free speech rights under the constitution. It was passed in the 2016 session of the Ohio house as HB 151. It passed the senate and was signed into law by the governor.

If you are interested in fighting for your rights to speak up there is already an action started by the Portage county tea party to remove the offending language. You can read the press release on their website http://www.portagecountyteaparty.com/

HB 151 is a companion to the HB 49 budget bill with the language that would have granted more power to Judge Grendell. While the tea party is on the other end of the spectrum it may not hurt to partner up for the protection of everyone’s first amendment rights.

With the right of free speech comes the responsibility for accepting credit (or blame) for the content of your speech. All of our members are well known to Judge Grendell through what we publish on this site, our community events and our letters to local news media not to mention our personal conversations with other elected officials in Geauga County. We expect that anyone who wishes to use our site to put forward their own viewpoint do so under their own name. ~Frank Gwirtz

      • The new law HB 218 introduced by R Seitz Ohio reminds me of the Mcarthy days when people were being accused of being a communist and had no right to defend themselves. mcarthy was finally outed by his fellow House members. but much damage was done to persons who were not communists.

HB 218 is a Bill that would be perfect for a repressive government that seeks to limit individuals right to free speech; however the United States is Not a repressive country. Our right to free speech is the cornerstone of this great land. Anyone who believes in America as the “land of the free/home of the brave should be against HB 218.

Our Parks do not belong to any Judeg or politician – they belong to the citizens of this state and country. Any attempt to take control of our parks away from us is a betrayal to all the voters who paid taxes to either buy the land or support the current parks we have. And that is a betrayal to our democracy as well.
