Grendell judicial complaint scheme backfires!

Kim Laurie, a Grendell political patronage employee at the Geauga County Probate Court, filed a complaint with the Board of Professional Conduct of the Supreme Court of Ohio in which she alleged that Probate/Juvenile Court candidate, Matthew Rambo, had violated professional ethics by making false statements about his prior voting record and about Tim Grendell. The ethics complaint was filed just days before one of Grendell’s PAC’s distributed literature and electronic ads announcing that a complaint had been filed, giving the appearance of a coordinated effort at smearing Rambo at a critical moment in the primary election campaign.

Today a hearing was held in Columbus by the Board of Judicial Conduct to adjudicate the complaint. By unanimous vote, the Board dismissed the complaint for lack of clear and convincing evidence and further found that the complaint “was frivolous and…filed solely for the purpose of gaining an advantage for a judicial candidate.”

Ms. Laurie was ordered to pay all costs of the hearing including Mr. Rambo’s legal expenses as well as remove any notice of the complaint from any and all media unless it were to include the judgement reached in the hearing.
