July Park Board Meeting

In one of the shortest Park District Board meetings in history, the commissioners approved more spending on numerous projects with little to no explanation or discussion. Video of the meeting is available at the links below.

Some of the highlights:

1-thousands of dollars of already spent money are given a cursory glance and then a nod of approval.

2- There were no questions about the ongoing projects, their costs or their completion dates by the commissioners.

3-  Note the fancy and no doubt costly videos. We are not quite sure where these will appear other than on the parks YouTube channel where there are not likely to be many views.

4- The real purpose of all this advertising is not to improve attendance which is already very good. (People already love and visit the parks.) The Park District management has been getting a lot of bad press lately. Back in February they were warned by the budget commission that they may not have enough funds to operate beginning January 2024. They rejiggered a budget that would pass muster.

5- Now they are embarking on a ad campaign trying to polish Park management’s image with costly ads, a survey and and three public listening sessions. The trouble with the sessions was that neither Director John Oros nor any board members were present to listen.

6- Watch Director John Oros nearly break his arm patting himself on the back telling folks that the park programs were always full. So more advertising is needed, huh?

7-Note we are heading into our 8th year of no public comment at the park board meetings
