Two women who were instrumental in the success of the Russell Township Park District were lauded recently for their contributions to the township.  Officials said that the late Peg Hetrick and the late Bebe Ober helped to preserve the open space making the township park district what it is today.

Park commission members and others point out that Ms. Ober was the first woman to serve on the board. She was a Realtor active in the Chagrin Valley and an ardent supporter of the Geauga Humane Society’s Rescue Village.

In addition to her involvement with the park district, Mrs. Hetrick was a Russell Township Clerk and promoted the formation of the park district and establishment of a board of commissioners. The Margaret Peg Hetrick Meadow Reserve in the Russell Uplands Preserve honors her contribution.
