Our first Conservation Conversation event of 2016 was held today at the Bainbridge Town Hall. We had a good crowd that listened intently to the presentation by Ray Stewart of the Ohio Wetlands Association and enthusiastically participated in the question and answer period.
Mr. Stewart showed how wetlands function in the ecosystem and how they provide the most efficient means of carbon sequestration which reduces greenhouse gasses in the atmosphere. He also pointed out that the wetlands and river systems in Geauga County are vital to the health of Lake Erie and the Great Lakes watershed.
It was a good kickoff to our educational programs for this year.

Barb Partington welcomed attendees and gave an account of the history of Protect Geauga Parks and our current efforts to make the Geauga Park District more responsive to citizen input.
Kathy Hanratty introduces our speaker, Ray Stewart.

Ray Stewart, President of the Ohio Wetlands Association gave an enlightening presentation on the function and importance of wetlands in protecting against floods, drought conditions and counterbalancing the effects of global warming.
